The Long Range Precision Rifle Training Course is tailored for shooters seeking to enhance their long range shooting capabilities through practical understanding of essential skills, equipment, ballistics, and decision-making strategies necessary for consistently engaging targets at extended distances.
The aim of this precision rifle course extends beyond merely achieving hits at long range. Students will cultivate a repeatable shooting process, gain insights into the performance of their rifle and ammunition, assess environmental conditions, generate reliable ballistic data, and effectively apply that information to secure first-round hits with their precision rifles.
Training will evolve from rifle and optic setup to data collection and practical target engagements, with students progressively aiming at targets out to 600 yards and beyond, contingent upon range conditions.
This precision rifle training is suitable for shooters utilizing either bolt-action or semi-automatic precision rifles, all aiming to strengthen their foundation in practical long-range shooting.

TRAINING GOAL
The primary aim is to enhance the shooter's capability to execute a repeatable process that achieves a first-round hit.
Students will discover that successful long-range shooting hinges on the integration of marksmanship fundamentals, dependable equipment, accurate ballistic data, environmental analysis, and meticulous execution.
Rather than being provided with a firing solution, shooters will learn to comprehend the rationale behind a specific solution and how to adapt when conditions shift.
Students will depart from the course with a heightened understanding of their individual rifle system and possess usable data for ongoing development beyond the class.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
Participants should arrive with:
- Precision rifle suited for long-range shooting — either bolt action or semi-automatic
- Rifle caliber .308 Winchester or smaller
- Quality magnified optic featuring:
- Externally adjustable elevation/windage turrets, and/or
- A functional holdover/holdoff reticle
- Bipod
- Rear bag or sand sock
- Approximately 200 rounds of quality ammunition
- Rifle data book or an alternate method for recording DOPE
- Notebook and writing materials
- Rifle cleaning/maintenance kit
- Relevant tools such as wrenches and scope tools specific to the rifle and optic
- Smartphone capable of running a ballistic application
- Eye and hearing protection
- Appropriate clothing and footwear for range and weather conditions
- Water, food, and personal necessities for the range
Ammunition Note: For optimal results, bring ammunition from the same manufacturer, with consistent bullet weight, type, and lot number, as consistency is crucial at longer distances.

- Binoculars

- Any other long-range, competition, hunting, or field gear the shooter wishes to assess during training
OPTICS
A magnified precision rifle optic is highly recommended. Students should be familiar with their optic's basic operation before attending, including magnification, turret adjustments, zeroing procedures, and reticle utilization.
Certain red-dot sight options or nontraditional optics may be accepted depending on the rifle, optic, and shooter’s training goals. Please contact Realistic Defense before the course if you have questions regarding your equipment's suitability.
