Intermediate/Advanced CQB Training Class
Course Description: This tactical training course is designed for individuals with a solid foundation in basic Close Quarters Battle (CQB) tactics, seeking to further refine their skills and enhance their performance in complex environments. With a focus on weapon selection, kit evaluation, and advanced room entry techniques, this class will push participants to operate efficiently and effectively in high-pressure, confined spaces.
The curriculum includes in-depth training on the fundamentals of CQB, emphasizing practical decision-making and the application of tactical concepts in dynamic, real-world scenarios. Through a combination of classroom instruction, live drills, and scenario-based training, students will sharpen their ability to navigate a variety of threat environments and execute flawless room entries, hallway movement, and threat neutralization.
Course Outline:
- Weapon Selection, Kit Evaluation, and Setup
- Understanding the role of different weapon systems in CQB environments (rifles, subguns, shotguns, and handguns).
- Evaluating the individual’s kit: optimizing for mobility and speed, while balancing armor, ammunition, and additional gear.
- Personal gear setup: slings, holsters, pouches, and other accessories that enhance operational efficiency.
- Priorities of Work
- Overview of the fundamental priorities in CQB: security, threat identification, and neutralization.
- How to structure operations in confined spaces with limited visibility and tight timelines.
- Prioritizing the clearance of hostile zones, securing key areas, and minimizing risks to personnel.
- Approaches
- Techniques for quietly and tactically approaching rooms and structures.
- Evaluating the environment for potential threats and leveraging cover and concealment.
- Speed vs. stealth: when to move quickly versus when to take a more deliberate approach.
- Doorways
- Techniques for entering through and clearing doorways efficiently and safely.
- Dealing with doors that are locked, blocked, or ajar.
- “Slice the Pie” methods and utilizing angles to minimize exposure when entering a room.
- Center-Fed Room
- Tactical considerations for clearing center-fed rooms with multiple entry points and obstacles.
- Teamwork strategies for center-fed rooms: establishing control and securing the area while maintaining situational awareness.
- Corner-Fed Room
- Techniques for engaging and clearing rooms with strong corner positions.
- Assessing and managing high-risk zones: using angles and teamwork to mitigate the risk of ambush.
- Room Entries
- Various techniques for breaching and entering different room configurations, including dynamic and deliberate entries.
- Time vs. safety: balancing the need for speed with the necessity for control in high-threat environments.
- Communication and coordination during room entries for teams of two or more.
- Follow-On Rooms
- Dealing with rooms directly adjacent to cleared rooms.
- Maintaining momentum while ensuring all rooms are fully cleared.
- Managing multiple rooms in sequence with a focus on avoiding crossfire and ensuring complete safety.
- Hallways
- Best practices for moving and clearing hallways in residential or industrial structures.
- Dealing with limited cover, angles, and the potential for multiple threats in long, narrow passages.
- High-stress tactics for hallway combat, from swift movements to securing intersections.
- L-Intersection
- Tactics for clearing and securing L-intersections in confined spaces.
- Risk assessment: knowing when to “stack” and when to push forward.
- Managing line-of-sight and using the environment to your advantage in tight corridors.
- T-Intersection
- Advanced techniques for approaching and clearing T-intersections with multiple directions of threat.
- Effective teamwork strategies for entering and clearing both legs of the intersection.
- Contingency plans for unexpected threats during intersection entries.
- Re-Clear
- Techniques for re-clearing rooms or areas that may have been previously missed or compromised.
- Understanding when a room/area is “safe” versus needing a secondary sweep.
- Procedures for tracking potential enemy movement and anticipating threat re-entry.
Training Methodology:
- Classroom Sessions: Briefings, theory, and tactical discussions to ensure a clear understanding of CQB principles.
- Practical Drills: Live, high-intensity exercises using airsoft, simunition, or force-on-force scenarios to replicate real-world conditions.
- Scenario-Based Training: Students will be placed in evolving scenarios that require quick thinking and adaptive decision-making.
Prerequisites:
- Completion of basic CQB or equivalent training.
- Comfortable with weapon handling and basic CQB movements.
Goal: By the end of the CQB training course, students will possess the skill set to confidently approach and clear complex structures, solve tactical problems, and neutralize threats in confined, dynamic spaces, all while enhancing teamwork and operational cohesion.
