Low Light Handgun skills

  

Overview

In this course the essentials of low light equipment selection will be discussed, to include handheld flashlights, pistol-mounted light sources, and support equipment. Students will be taught techniques to effectively search, navigate, identify potential threats and engage, when necessary, in a low light environment.

Experience Requirements

This is an intermediate level class. Student must be able to comfortably and SAFELY load, unload and operate their handgun in a group environment. The student needs to know and be able to demonstrate safe gun handling, weapon system familiarity, foundational marksmanship skills, and working from a holster.
 

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Understand what type of      flashlight to purchase
  • Understand the limitations of      handheld and weapon mounted flashlights
  • Understand principles of Low      Light engagements
  • Understand the various handheld      flashlight techniques
  • Reload in low light
  • Clear malfunctions 
  • Transition from target to target      under low light 
  • Shoot on the move in low light
  • Know where to store flashlights      on them for easy access

Equipment List

  • Handgun, semi-automatic, NO      REVOLVERS for this class
  • Minimum 2 magazines 
  • Dominant belt-mounted holster 
    • Holster Requirements: 
      • Must completely support the        pistol.
      • Must not collapse once drawn.
      • Must fit properly to the        belt. 
      • When holstered, the trigger        guard must be completely covered. 
      • Must be oriented in a safe        direction for drawing. 
      • “Trigger Finger” style        retention devices are not permitted.
      • Must be able to draw and        holster one-handed; Support hand cannot be utilized.
      • Holster compliance is at the        discretion of the Instructor. 
  • Magazine/ammunition pouches
  • Handheld flashlight
  • Weapon mounted light with suitable holster (optional)
  • Sturdy Belt at least 1.5"      wide
  • Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
  • Casual, comfortable civilian      clothing suitable for training in any weather (unless training in duty      uniform)
  • Eye Protection, day and night lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
  • Earmuffs or earplugs

Ammo

  • Estimated round count: 300 rounds      pistol
  • Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
  • No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
